In this lesson, students will build off of what they previously learned in SLURRP and read a news article about single-use plastics. Students will then write an opinion piece using evidence from text, previous knowledge, and student ideas to support or oppose the banning of single use plastics.

In this lesson, students will role play in a stormwater pollution scenario where they will have to use their roles perspective to discuss a local pollution issue. Students will use their knowledge of stormwater runoff pollution from SLURRP and be able to practice listening and speaking skills as well as supporting claims with evidence. The lesson concludes with a letter writing activity.

In this lesson, students will calculate the area of different surfaces in their schoolyard and use an equation to calculate the volume of runoff their schoolyard produces within a year. This lesson can be extended to compare their current schoolyard with a schoolyard re-design from the teacher-led lesson.
